A connected carousel starts with the whole strip, not several unrelated pages. Imagine three portrait frames placed side by side. A photo that overlaps the first boundary appears at the right edge of slide one and the left edge of slide two. The split must happen at exactly the same place in the finished design, so decide the count and dimensions before arranging fine details.

Make a seamless carousel in Canva

  1. Set a wide custom size

Create a custom design in pixels. For three 4:5 slides, use 3240 × 1350 px: three times the 1080 px slide width. Begin with the intended dimensions rather than trying to turn an unrelated finished poster into a strip.

  2. Mark the slide boundaries

Canva's current desktop help places guides under File → Rulers and guides → Add guides. Choose custom guides or add vertical guides at each 1080 px boundary. Check that any column layout has no gap. Menu labels can differ on mobile; use the official help linked below if the controls look different.

  3. Design across the guides

Add your photographs and arrange a few elements across boundaries. Keep faces, small labels and important words inside a slide. Use the guides as cutting marks, not as borders that every object must obey.

  4. Download the complete image

Export the wide composition as a PNG when available and inspect its actual pixel dimensions. Confirm the export includes the full width. Keep an editable copy so you can move a subject if a cut lands in an awkward place.

  5. Split the export into equal slides

Use the free banner splitter on this site or a Canva Marketplace app such as Carousel Splitter. Choose the intended number of columns and preview the cuts. The browser tool processes the image locally, without an upload. Split your Canva export in the browser.

  6. Select the slides in order

Inspect the saved images, then start a multi-image post in Instagram. Select them in their exported order and check each crop before sharing. A changed crop or an accidental shuffle can break a seam even when the original design was correct.

The table is arithmetic for a 4:5 workflow, not a promise that every Canva design type accepts every canvas. Canva's help lists custom-dimension limits and validation in the size fields. Check those controls before building an unusually wide project. If the canvas is rejected, shorten the sequence or use an editor built around connected slides; avoid silently reducing the output resolution just to force a design through.

Common Canva problems

Blurry output often starts before the split. Check the original photograph, its size on the canvas and the exported image at full resolution. A small image enlarged across several slides cannot gain real detail from a larger export. Export a test early, before adding a long sequence of labels. Repeatedly saving screenshots of the design is a poor substitute for downloading the finished file.

A seam through a face or a short word is usually a layout problem rather than a splitter problem. Move the layer in the editable design and export again. For type, keep the whole phrase inside one slide unless the break is intentional. A frame, paper edge or broad area of a landscape can connect two slides without asking the reader to reconstruct a sentence.

If the seam is fine in the saved images but wrong in Instagram, check selection order and crop. Use matching dimensions for every connected slide. A crop option that is useful for an ordinary mixed photo dump can change the geometry of a panorama. Inspect the transition between each adjacent pair rather than only looking at the cover.

Canva is a better fit when you prefer desktop work, collaborate around shared brand assets or make many formats beyond Instagram. Its Brand Kits documentation describes shared logos, colors and fonts, subject to plan and role. Glassy is a focused alternative when the photos and the project are on your iPhone and your main goal is a connected composition. Neither choice removes the need to review the exported result.

Make the same carousel in Glassy

  1. Choose a multi-slide template or create a blank project with a canvas size that suits the post.
  2. Fill the template with photos in one go, or place photos and type individually.
  3. Drag selected layers across the slide edges, checking that the parts left on each slide remain readable.
  4. Export the slides in order and select them yourself in Instagram. Video and Live Photo imports and motion exports require Glassy Plus.

A free browser splitter is enough when you already have one finished panorama. A design app becomes useful when you want several photographs, editable type, cutouts and cards to share the same canvas. Decide which problem you are solving before rebuilding an existing design. Save a simple two-slide trial first; it is easier to spot crop and spacing mistakes there than in a long project.
